In October 2024 I made a Google form
with questions for schools to complete
to assess their school readiness for AI integration, using 8 core pillars.
The form was completed and report sent to you.

This KWC EvolveSchool AI Readiness Tool Report was created to assist you and your school team in making informed decisions about AI in your school. It is designed to help your school understand its current strengths and areas for development as you integrate AI technologies into teaching and learning.
The conversation around Artificial Intelligence in education has shifted. It is no longer a question of IF AI will impact our classrooms, but HOW we can steer that impact to enhance teaching and learning, (including supporting and informing learners to use AI responsibly, ethically and for meaningful learning.
For school leaders, the challenge isn't just about adopting new tools; it’s about strategic evolution.
The KWC EvolveSchool AI Readiness Tool has eight identified core pillars that define a school’s AI maturity.
Whether you are just beginning to explore the technology or you are looking to refine your current strategy, these eight areas provide a roadmap for sustainable integration.
The 8 Pillars of AI Readiness
Strategic Planning: AI shouldn’t be an "add-on." A successful school treats AI integration as a central aspect of its long-term mission, ensuring technology aligns with pedagogical goals rather than disrupting them.
School Leadership: True readiness starts at the top. This requires leaders who aren’t just approving software, but who are championing a culture of continuous learning and AI literacy among staff and learners.
Staff Development: A school's greatest asset is their team. Providing professional development is critical, but the focus must be on application, how AI can reduce administrative burnout, enhance lesson planning and meaningful assessment.
Ethics and AI: As the integration of these tools moves forward, the questions of bias, academic integrity, and privacy become extremely important. A ready school has clear, proactive guidelines that prioritize learner safety above efficiency.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Ask yourself: How do we know if our AI initiatives are working? Using data not just as anecdotes but to measure learner outcomes and implementation success is essential for pivoting and scaling strategies. Driving AI for learning, striving for personalised learning, differentiated and multimodal teaching and learning strategies.
Learner AI Resources: Access and AI literacy is key. Consider: Are we providing learners with the resources they need to use AI responsibly? Think about the importance of moving away from banning AI to teaching "AI for learning fluency" as a core literacy skill.
Parent and Community Engagement: AI in education affects families too. Transparent communication helps demystify the technology, continually informing parents of the journey.
AI Policy Existence: Finally, a clear policy is the foundation of consistency. It provides the "rules of the road" that allow the school leadership, teachers and learners to experiment safely within a structured framework.
Where is Your School on the Journey?

Every school’s path to school leadership and AI is different, but the journey generally moves through three stages:
Initial Awareness: Recognising that AI exists and beginning to discuss its role in the mission.
Developing Strategy: Moving from discussion to action, forming dedicated teams, and addressing ethical concerns head-on.
Strategic Leadership: AI is no longer a "new thing," rather it is seamlessly woven into the long-term vision, supported by robust policies and proactive change management.
